It is used in high-load and thick-section applications such as aerospace, military components (like the Shenzhou spacecraft series), construction, and automotive parts. The alloy has a tendency for intergranular cracks during welding and requires specialized filler material and technique.

● High Strength and Hardness: The 2A14 aluminum bar is one of the higher-strength commercial aluminum alloys and is especially suitable for heavy-duty structural components. Its strength can be further enhanced by heat treatment to meet the demands of industries like aerospace and heavy machinery.

● Poor Corrosion Resistance: While the 2A14 aluminum bar has excellent mechanical properties, its corrosion resistance is relatively weak. To address this, it is often clad with a layer of pure aluminum to significantly improve its corrosion resistance, especially in humid environments.

● Good Machinability: The 2A14 aluminum bar has good machinability, particularly in the heat-treated state. It is easy to perform machining operations such as cutting and turning, making it widely used in the production of complex parts.

● Welding Performance: Due to its high copper content, the 2A14 aluminum bar tends to crack during welding, requiring special processes and conditions. However, in some cases, it can be joined by riveting or specific welding methods like friction stir welding.
